Last weekend’s wedding was dear to my heart. I’ve known Joe’s family since I was a little girl from the Portuguese community here in Humboldt. When Joe and Richelle approached me to photograph their wedding I was more than thrilled. Together with their love they are also combining more hearts, all three of their little girls. It was a wonderful wedding to document.
I started off by photographing the reception venue, the Blue Lake Casino and Hotel and the area was sure impressive. They can accommodate large weddings and it was a perfect spot for this couple. The florals were designed by the amazing Aurelia and her team at Country Living Florist & Fine Gifts. I absolutely always enjoy working with her! Then I headed over to where the bride would be getting ready and took their detail shots. They wanted to combine their Cuban and Portuguese cultures by mixing tropical flowers and hydrangeas that are lined all over the Azores, where Joe’s family is specifically from. You can see pops of color from her cute shoes to the ring that has blue accents on it.
The ceremony was absolutely beautiful and traditionally Catholic. Joe was close to his grandmother and wanted to honor her by having a Catholic ceremony with a full mass. It’s rare that I get to attend or photograph a wedding like this and it was a complete honor. As the bride, Richelle came down the aisle she had an expression of sheer joy of seeing all of her and Joe’s family and friends there with them. The homily was beautiful as Father Pacheco of Saint Mary’s Parish in Arcata quoted Gospel verses on how two people combine love and that it is a vow that cannot be separated by man or any other force except God. My own wedding was a Catholic wedding and it brought back fond memories as they chose the same readings as my husband and I did.
Every moment was gorgeous and I can’t thank Richelle and Joe enough for letting me be a part of it. At the bottom of the page you can see a list of all of the amazing vendors that worked together to create this beautiful day! I hope you enjoy your blog post you two!
There is nothing more precious as a mom helping her daughter get ready on her wedding day.
I love that moment when the bride shows herself and is about to walk down the aisle!
Now on to my favorite part! The bride and groom portraits!
Richelle’s laugh is so contagious! Isn’t she gorgeous!?!
