I had a wonderful time doing this anniversary session in McKinleyville, California. I met Abby by collaborating with her on a shoot back this last winter. She is a local makeup artist and does gorgeous work! Since then she’s worked on a few clients of mine before sessions. She is such a sweetheart and her husband, Chris John was such a sport taking these photos for their anniversary session. Most of the time people don’t think about anniversary sessions but I think they’re important! I wish I could convince my own husband to do anniversary sessions with me! The man HATES photos!
Enough of my hubby and more about this gorgeous session! We had originally planned to do a coastal session but if there was wind I knew it would be too cold and windy where I had planned. It was, so we decided on a plan B where I had done my daughter’s first year photos. So literally, LITERALLY as soon as they pulled up it started to pour. Seriously?!? They asked if they should reschedule or just go for it since they were dressed anyways. I said, you know what? Let’s go for it! I strategically placed them under tree branches so that they could be covered by them and not get soaked. I’ve been looking for a willow tree to shoot under for a while and today was the day! I found one that was right under my nose the whole time! The other location we went to I seriously wasn’t even sure it was going to work. I was afraid it was just going to be a dark hole. You know how I am a light and airy photographer and lighting and locations matter SOOOOO much to achieve this look! However, it was amazing and sooo glowy even with the dark rainy skies.
This whole session was shot with one hand. The other hand had to hold my umbrella up so I didn’t get myself and my gear soaked! Thank goodness I had that umbrella. I was shooting like a mad woman running back and forth and Abby’s husband probably thought I was crazy but hey, it was worth it. Yes, even the muddy shoes were worth it! If you ever want to check out Abby’s work, and I recommend you do, I’ll link her page at the bottom of this post. Thanks for tuning in you guys and Abby and Chris John, thanks for working with me! I LOVE the magic we made!
There’s something about this next photo I just love. It’s so bright and clear and melts my butter!
This next photo had so many cars in the background! But with positioning them and myself a certain way I could get what I wanted.
